Wikis are great for community/social contacts and even can provide useful general/specific knoweldge.
The only problems I've herd of are with open access wikis in which subjects of a political nature are covered,
In which people of different viewpoints have an editing war.
Wikis can be used by Libraries to promot themselves and their activities, In particular with more internet savvy people.
